A Successful Camp For The Marching Knights!
by Brittany Dirks, Zeta Psi, University of Central Florida, ΤΒΣ |
The UCF Marching Knights are over 300 hundred strong this year, approximately a 26% increase from last fall. To use our favorite motto for success: Charge On! With so many members—both old and new—the sisters of Zeta Psi almost didn’t have enough uniforms for everyone! But luckily, we fit everyone smoothly and were done with the entire band—percussion, leadership, old, and new—within a total of six hours over two days!
Besides our numbers, we have a very important addition to our MK family this season: Dr. Ryan Kelly, Associate Director of Bands! Having finished his undergraduate degree with the Florida State University, Dr. Kelly is a brother of the Gamma Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. He even sang with the brothers of Eta Sigma here at UCF after band camp ended.
Speaking of the end of band camp, the MKs were able to say they learned all of the Pregame performance along with most of Show One. This includes the UCF Football Kickoff Luncheon that they performed at on the second to last day. And, at the very end, the brothers of KKPsi put on the traditional barbeque in celebration. All four music organizations (TBS, KKPsi, SAI, PMA) took this opportunity to tell interested MKs about what we do. Each one had their own board of information and people answering questions.
Overall, band camp 2014 was extremely successful for the Marching Knights, and a great band camp leads to an even better season!
